Snow Day

Snow Day!!!

I have got to do a better job of blogging ha! I always seem to forget to do it when something funny or noteworthy happens. We had a snow day last week and the boys weren't so sure about it. Of course 3 days later it was 70 degrees out and they probably forgot all about the snow. But, while we had it we played in it for about 15 minutes. We got everyone all dressed up in hats, mittens, heavy coats and overalls to go play in the snow. I swear it took us longer to get dressed and undressed than the length of time we spent outside. Max walked outside cautiously and looked around like he was really unsure. Connor ran straight into the snow and just ran and ran around in it. He didn't really bend down to touch it, but I think he liked how it felt under his feet. Max was super busy trying to take his hat off, so he didn't really have time to explore. When we said it was time to go inside they ran to the door, they were over it. Usually it is a struggle to get them inside. So in the end we had a few cute pictures, wet clothes and a wet floor. But it was worth it to see the boys experience something new. I will be sad one day where there aren't as many "new" experiences, but for now I will enjoy them and look forward to the next one. Here are some pictures and maybe a video if I can get it to load :)

2012 In Review

Happy New Years 2013!!!

2012 has been a rough and joyful year for the Calma clan, and we made it through! We struggled through the loss of 4 family members, torticolis, plagiocephaly, asthma, mounting medical bills, speech delays, RSV (when we didn't have insurance), physical therapy, many many many Dr.'s appointments, a peanut allergy and much, much more! But we also have had a lot of fun and a lot of memories were made. Mackenzie was welcomed into the world! We have been to the Virginia Aquarium (more times than I can count), the Zoo, Botanical Gardens, the beach, the Children's Museum and many other places. We celebrated the boy's 1st birthday with friends, family and a Dr. Seuss themed party. I am sure there are many other memories I am forgetting, but at least with my ADD I will remember them fondly and randomly throughout the coming year!  The Calma's laughed, cried, fought and snuggled through it all, grateful that we have each other. Thank you to all of the friends and family who have helped us along the way, we are very appreciative and love you all! I wish you all a wonderful 2013 with lots of laughter and love! Here are some photos/memories from the past year :)

Zoo Boo

This past weekend we went to the Zoo Boo at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. It was a blast! The boys had so much fun and passed out so hard that I had to put them down for a nap without lunch. It was rescheduled for after Halloween because of Hurricane Sandy, so I was trying to decide if I was going to dress the boys up or not. In the end I dressed them up because how could I not? They were too cute in their costumes to not dress them up! Connor was an Elephant and Max was a Kangaroo. Personality wise they should have been reversed but the Kangaroo costume was Max's size and vice verse. There was a ton of Halloween stuff to do at the zoo but it seems like we did more animal watching than anything else. Connor heard music at one point and decided it was time to dance. Boy does that kid love to dance! He was dancing away until he saw that he had an audience. At one point my brother-in-law almost hit Connor with the stroller. Connor stopped to give him the stink eye. When my BIL said something to him, Connor looked back at him and gave him another stink eye. Hilarious!! Max had decided the day was just too exhausting and had to take a nap. Neither of my kids will nap in the stroller, so I had to put him on my back. He passed out within minutes and I had a little kangaroo sleeping on my back. So sweet! So nothing too exciting happened, but the day was full of fun and laughs! I am posting a few pictures so you can see the ridiculousness of how cute they were.

P.S. I can't figure out how to keep this from going to all caps!  It is not all caps on the edit page, sorry!!

Since this is my first blog post ever I will start off with a little about myself. I am a 32 year old Stay At Home Mom of twin boys. (It's capitalized because its the hardest job I have ever had and the title demands respect!) I have been married to my husband for 3 years and our boys are 16 months old. We have two dogs (really 1 mini horse and 1 dog) and a cat. I decided to start blogging at the advice of my Aunt who says my stories about my boys are so great that I should keep track of them. Probably a good idea since I can't remember to move the wet clothes to the dryer let alone remember all of the funny things my boys do. Here is a little info on the boys - Connor is the bigger one who looks exactly like my husband who is half Filipino. He is wild and crazy just like I was/am! He loves to laugh and play, but can bully Max a bit. He loves to pet the animals and gives his cousin Mackenzie kisses whenever he can. Maximus is my itty bitty boy, my 10%er who is a sweet cuddle bug. He loves to sit in my lap and always wakes up from nap first to have alone play time without Connor. He is a bitter if you piss him off, but is so cute you forget about it 5 minutes later. He has blue eyes and is whiter than I am. We always joke around that he is Jacob's (the embryologist) son. Anyway, it is 9:20 on a Friday night and I have to get started on my coupons for Harris Teeters super doubles! I will leave you with a gross but funny story from the other night.

During the week I watch my sisters 4 month old daughter and my BFF's two girls. They are 8 and 10 years old. I only watch the girls after school for two hours a day. Well the 8 year old little bugger that she is has a problem with shutting doors. Not sure if it is a phobia or what, but it can cause some problems with two 16 month olds running around. Ok so, all of my daycare kids left for the day and my Mother in law was over for a bit. I was in the kitchen trying to clean what I could while I had someone to keep my boys busy (if you are a Mom you know exactly what I am talking about). Well I guess my MIL thought Connor was being too quite and went to go find him. She found him in my bathroom playing with POOP!!! OMG my worst nightmare, bacteria city! I know for a fact that I hadn't pooped that day (TMI?) and I also know that I would have flushed it, so I deduced it must have been one of the girls. Of course neither wanted to admit it when their mother asked them, I mean seriously who would admit to pooping in a bathroom and leaving it in there? But since one of them doesn't shut doors, I am guessing it was that little bugger. So, when my MIL brought him to me and said that he was playing with poop I washed his hands. Then I sat there and looked at him with his wet shirt and had a freak out moment! Why am I only washing his hands?? I have seen him play in toilets before, it gets everywhere! So I had to give him a bath immediately, and well since the water was running and Connor was naked and ready to get in Max cried to take a bath too. So here is was a non bath night (I totally bathe them every other night, for my sanity) at 5:30 in the evening and I am giving my boys a bath. Of course dinner after that just got them messy again but at least it was noodles and not poop. So morale of the story? Don't assume the doors stay shut after you shut them, triple check the house before you release the hounds from the gated in living room. Night!
